Ten Trends and Phrases That I Just Don't Understand

Hey Friends!! What's up? Today I am going to share a list of things that our society deems as "cool" but I just can't understand. These are the top ten things that make me cringe the most. 1 . Lit . I don't get why a slang word needs to be shortened any more! Why? Just Why? 2. Dabbing . Don't even get me started on this one. Who came up with this anyways? 3. Fam: People started saying this at my school recently and I don't understand. I am not your family. Why do you call me fam? WE AREN'T EVEN RELATED! 4. The whole "Whip" and "Nay Nay" song/dance. No. Just No. 5. Planking. All I can say is that after a while, this is bound to get tiring. Am I right? 6. GIGANTIC Winged Eyeliner. #walklikeanegyptianforrealthough 7. Man Buns. Not a good look. On anyone. Ever. 8. Shift Dresses. I'm kind of back and forth on this one. I look absolutely awful in shapeless clothing but I do think that there are a select few people that c

The Writings of Baby Julie | Installment #1

Hi Guys!  This past week, I have been sorting through old folders and files, trying to clean out my flash drive and I stumbled upon a bunch of old writing. I read this one and thought it was pretty good. It was from my English class when I was a freshman. Hope you like it! (And if you don't like it, don't tell me. This essay has little bits of my heart woven into it.) ~Julie ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's Okay to Cry by Julie Ackerson Purple skies of rain drenched my sorrowful soul as I watched the casket being lowered into the ground. The tightly woven tension crept through the chill morning air, threatening my ability to stay strong. Don't cry Julie, don't cry. I  listened to the people who spoke and held my tears through the whole program. I  looked around me and a tear began to arise in my eyes. I  could no longer hold it. The single tear slid down my face. I

30 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting High School

It is NOTHING like the movies.  Being super involved in sports isn't everything. If you want to be valedictorian, you need to decide 1st term of freshman year. You need a LOT  less  school supplies than you think you do.  Time flies A LOT faster than you think it will. Failing a class isn't the end of the world. If you don't go on a lot of dates, IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.  Find something that you love and stick with it. Don't be afraid to make new friends or lose old ones.  DO NOT MISS CLASS. 1 hour of missed class = 2 hours trying to catch up. If you have a hard time remembering your locker combination, write it in permanent marker on your hand. Keep it there until you can remember it.  Having a good teacher is better than having an easy teacher. Only rent a locker if you need one. I ended up spending $10 to rent a locker last year and never used it.  Don't use binders. They are heavy and take up a lot of space. Opt for a notebook and a folder

What I've Been Up To

Hello Internet!!! As you may have noticed, I haven't been posting on this site as regularly as I would like to. These past few weeks have been totally INSANE!! On Saturday, my friend's sister threw him a surprise party and I was given the task of keeping him busy all day which took a lot of time and planning. He ended up being very surprised so in the end, all of my effort paid off. (If you are reading this Cory, Happy Birthday next Friday) I have also been trying to get ready for the school year to start. I start my college classes on Monday the 22nd of August which is a week from today. My high school classes don't start until Wednesday though which is super nice. My schedule is a bit insane this year because I am taking classes from Utah Valley University along with my High School classes. As for this next week, not much is going on. I'm hoping to get some new posts up soon so stay tuned. Love you all!! ~Julie

QOTD: Hope you are all having a WONDERFUL day! :) New posts coming soon

Wanderlust

*I wrote this about a week ago but it never went up due to computer problems. So, here you go :) Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night because you realize that you are just one person on a planet full of billions of other people? Right now, I am sitting in by bedroom at 1:30 AM having a "Not-Quite-Quarter-Life-Crisis" and it has kept me up for hours.  There are so many good people on this earth and I think that we can forget how wonderful people can really be, especially with all that's happened regarding terrorism in the United States. My soulmate could be out there, somewhere, but I am too stuck to where I am to go out and find him. Adventures don't just happen, they are made.  This is why I have decided to step a little bit outside of my comfort zone. On Thursday, I am leaving to hike up the tallest mountain in Utah, Kings Peak, and hopefully, this adventure will give me a sense of who I am and where I'm going. Hopefully it will satisf

5 Things That Make Me really REALLY Happy

There is something about colorful abstractish paintings that makes me really happy. I love how the artist can see one thing but the viewer can see something totally different. I think that this style of painting offers more creative expression and says what words can't. I have been playing the piano for 12 years now and I absolutely adore it. It is the one thing that I feel like I can do and make other people happy. Eventually, I want to go to a music school after I graduate high school.  Vintage Dresses!! I don't know why but I absolutely LOVE vintage dresses. I love the classy look and with a lot of dresses that are trending now, you don't get that vibe. I love these tea length rockability style dresses because they are cute and fun without being too revealing.   ANYTHING rainbow. To me, rainbows are a sign of renewal and rebirth. They are a sign of cleansing and new starts. They are also colorful and me + color = total happiness This show is hands down

5 Ways to Become Happier

1. Freshen up your space. Whether this means a deep clean, some new pillows, or even a new paint color, it is important to love the places where you spend your time. Try giving places such as your bedroom, your office, or even your car, a bit of TLC. Trust me: it will be worth it. 2. Spend some quality time with people you care about. It can be your friends, your family, your dog, it doesn't really matter. It is important to know that you are loved and a great way to feel the love, is to share the love. Gosh, if everyone knew and understood this concept, the world would be a much happier place. 3. Step outside of your comfort zone. You never know, something life changing could be waiting for you and you could totally miss out because you are too afraid to go out and look. Great days don't jus happen, they are created. If you really want to be happy, get out there and do something about it! 4.learn something new. The only thing that we take with us after we die is our know

Weird Weather

Hello Internet! We have been having the strangest weather here lately! Yesterday, it hailed so hard that it left the dirt in my backyard bumpy. It was a little bit terrifying. One moment I'm enjoying the wonderful afternoon breeze and suddenly I'm being pelted with ice cubes the size of lima beans! And then on Monday, I was at my friend Kayt's house and it started MONSOONING!! Her chickens were going nuts. :) I'm beginning to think that we no longer live in a desert. Anyways, in honor of crazy Mother Nature, I dug out a poem that I wrote a while back for your midnight enjoyment. Hope you like it! Spring The heavy clouds gobble up the scant rays of sunshine, Only letting through their own wet minions. No matter how much of a fight that sunshine puts up, No matter how many times it tries to convince the clouds that they'll finally lose, The clouds still win. The sunshine begins to recede,  Finally accepting the fact that the

Just a little poetry for your Sunday afternoon :)

Just a few words Some people talk too much and say too little. The words come out, but the information hesitates, Not quite sure if it’s even supposed to be there. Their words are like mountains in comparison to the “average English language.” Reaching to such incredible heights, that no one dares to climb to the top. No one has the guts to fully scale the massiveness of the mountain, or the word. It amazes me that someone who can talk as fast as the wind, Has the innate skill of saying everything and nothing all at the same time. The thoughts come out as syllables. Blank. Empty. Syllables. With no meaning at all. A monotone string of letter, after letter, after letter . . . Wanting to mean something, Wanting to say something important, But never really saying anything at all. ~Julie P.S. What do you guys want to see on here next? Do you enjoy reading my rambles or do you want to see more of my hobbies. I was also thinking about doing one of those

My Story

Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to be a writer. I have always loved the idea of writing all my secrets where nobody would ever hear them; the idea of writing what I could never say out loud. Hearts can leak, but books can never be broken. Hearts can be robbed, but books keep fighting and fighting until there is nothing left that’s worth stealing.  I developed a sense of “trust” in my notebooks. I loved thought that my words mattered to them.        It’s this constant battle you see, one that often throws me amidst the knights and the warlords, and their bloody misunderstandings. That’s all that war really is: a bunch of people misunderstanding each other. There is a rare case or two of people fighting just to kill time, but for all of the other times, there is always a reason. My reason is my "introvertiveness."        I hate my definition.        I was shy, I was sad, and worst of all: I knew it. My notebooks were my prized possession. Ea

Speechless...

Dear Reader, No. It's actually more like wordless... Lately, I've been so focused on writing to please people. My teachers, my parents, my clients, they all expect perfection but there's only so much of the "perfectly worded" me to go around. If I keep dishing out the words at this rate, eventually I'm going to crack. Does anybody else on the big, worldwide web know this feeling? The feeling of being so wordy without saying anything at all. I can write page after page about the effect that the Civil war had on pancakes in the South or the what pizza does when sprinkled with radium. (totally making this up by the way. I have no idea what effect radium has on pizza) I want to say something that will make people think long and hard about life, freedom, love, but how can I do that when my words are aimed at someone else and not me. That's one of my resolutions. Speak as if the room is empty. Write as if no one is reading. Express myself as if no one ca
